Far North region

Extending from the Torres Strait Islands in the north, to the top of the Cardwell Range in the south, and from Cairns in the east to Croydon in the west, this region is home to around 5.7% of Queensland’s total population.

Extending from the Gulf of Carpentaria in the north, to Kynuna in the south, and from Torrens Creek in the east to the Northern Territory border in the west, the region is home to around 0.6% of Queensland’s total population.

Extending from the Cardwell Range in the north to 50kms south of Lake Buchanan, and from Townsville in the east to the west of Charters Towers. This region is home to around 4.8% of Queensland’s total population.

Extending from north of Bowen to south of St Lawrence, and west to Clermont and the Bowen Basin. The local area is home to around 3.5% of Queensland’s total population.

Central West region

Central West region map

Extending from near Kynuna in the north to the South Australia border in the south, and from the Drummond Range east of Alpha to the Northern Territory in the west. The district is home to around 0.2% of Queensland’s total population.

Wide Bay/ Burnett region

Wide Bay Burnett region map

Wide Bay/Burnett covers an area of around 48,599km2 and encompasses the local government areas of Bundaberg, Cherbourg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, North Burnett and South Burnett. This region is home to around 6% of Queensland’s total population.

North Coast region

North Coast region map

This region extends from Cooroy in the north of the region, to Fernvale in the south and from Bribie Island in the east to west of Esk. The North Coast region is home to around 17.1% of Queensland's total population.

Darling Downs region

Extending from Wandoan in the north of the region, to the New South Wales border in the south, and from Hatton Vale in the east to Glenmorgan in the west. This region is home to around 5.8% of Queensland's total population.

Extending from north of Augathella to the New South Wales border in the south, and from east of Jackson to the South Australia border in the west. This region is home to around 0.5% of Queensland's total population.

Metropolitan region

Metropolitan region map

This region is divided by the Brisbane River and extends from Mount Glorious in the north of the region, to Logan City in the south, and from Point Lookout in the east, to west of Helidon and the major centre of Ipswich. This region is home to around 31.8% of Queensland's total population.

South Coast region

South Coast region map

As one of the fastest growing regions in the south-east corner of Queensland. South Coast covers 6587 square kilometres from the New South Wales border in the south to Springwood in the north, and as far west as the Cunningham Highway, west of Boonah. This region is home to around 19.4% of Queensland's total population.
