Ellangowan Nature Refuge

  • 5 endangered bulloak jewel butterflies found in Ellangowan Nature Refuge, north-east of Leyburn, as part of management of this area. 
  • This nature refuge was declared in the road reserve in 1999 to protect the vegetation for these critically endangered butterflies.
  • The review of this area identified 17 bulloak trees.

Warrego Highway Upgrade Program

  • 18 projects delivered between Toowoomba and west of Miles from 2014-2019 to improve road safety and increase efficiency.
  • $635 million jointly funded by Australian and Queensland Governments.

Miles Driver Reviver site upgraded

  • May 2018, 27 year old site upgraded with a modern building, BBQ area, extra seating and landscaped gardens. 
  • The old hut has been gifted to Western Downs Regional Council and the State Emergency Service.

Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

  • 41km toll road linking the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa and the Gore Highway at Athol (via Charlton) to remove up to 80% of heavy and super heavy vehicles travelling through Toowoomba CBD. 
  • $1.606 billion project is being delivered under a Public Private Partnership arrangement with Nexus Infrastructure.
