Henry Ross Lookout upgrade

Henry Ross Lookout on Kuranda Range is an iconic stop for many tourists

  • $300,000 upgrade completed for the Henry Ross Lookout, an iconic tourist attraction on the Kuranda Range section of Kennedy Highway, north of Cairns.
  • Construction included a weather shelter, extended walkway, updated fencing and minor landscaping of the embankment.
  • Worked in partnership with the Rotary Club for the 75th anniversary Battle of the Coral Sea to install a replica commemorative plaque originally installed in 1952. 

Indigenous Driver Licensing Program

  • 20 remote communities provided remote licensing and identification services.
  • Program aims to achieve positive health and social wellbeing outcomes.

Bill Fulton Bridge duplication

  • Bridge duplication on Cairns Western Arterial Road to improve safety and traffic flow. 
  • $34.2 million project and completed in December 2017.

Fearnley Street boat ramp and walkway

  • $1.3 million upgraded boat ramp and floating walkway in Cairns. 
  • Completed the 4-lane ramp and built floating walkway which better caters for the local rowing club in March 2018.

Port Douglas dredging

  • Completed dredging in boat harbour through the Marine Infrastructure Fund.
  • Around 50,000m2 removed to improve navigation access for recreational and commercial boat users.

Cape York Region Package

  • Safer road access increased when around 40km of the Peninsula Developmental Road was sealed including Archer River to Wolverton Station, Coen South and Laura Racecourse to Little Laura. This was funded through the $260.5 million allocated to the package.
