Keeping communities connected

  • Our traffic camera network helped stranded communities during the floods from Severe Tropical Cyclone Nora.
  • TMR, Queensland Police Service and Hinchinbrook Shire Council allowed police to escort supply trucks through receding flood waters to deliver supplies into flooded Ingham.

Haughton River Floodplain upgrade project

  • To reduce impact to local communities and motorists, 13.5km of flood immunity and safety works to begin on the Bruce Highway.
  • Works includes construction of 5 bridges including a wider and higher level bridge to replace the existing narrow Haughton River bridge.
  • Motorist safety will be improved by intersection upgrades, 2 overpasses of sugarcane tramway open level crossings, improve visibility at Bruce Highway and Reed Beds and widening the centre line. 

Cape River Bridge upgrade

  • New higher and wider Cape River Bridge between Emerald and Charters Towers to improve freight reliability and flood immunity.
  • $34.6 million project funding, expected to be completed in late 2018.
